Savoy Café opens.

(Oct.) Operated initially by Katherine Donaghue and then by brothers Jim Connolly and Steve Connolly, it is located at 461 Columbus Avenue. The Sabby Lewis Band serves as the house band. The club moves to 410 Massachusetts Avenue on July 8, 1943, and features Dixieland jazz from 1948. Nat Hentoff hosts a live radio program from the Savoy, and subsequently writes, “Behind the closed doors of the Savoy, I felt more at home than anywhere else I had ever been, including home.” The club closes on January 1, 1956.
